Odyssey School Video Game Club

Odyssey School Video Game Club

A while ago Mr. Biggs proposed an idea of a video game club for high schoolers. Now I understand that there is little educational value, but I believe that the value of the the club that I am discussing is the socialization of students who are not as outgoing as I am. I believe that this club will give the kids of Odyssey School a chance to talk and spend time with friends as well as learn responsibility for either showing up or remembering to be a part of a certain group. The location of this club for the high schoolers was already discussed with the teacher whose room we will be using. Mr. Biggs was kind enough to allow us the opportunity of using his room after school on Fridays from 1:45 to Probably 2:35. The amount of kids we have already volunteering to join the club if created is substantial; about ten to fifteen kids or more would like to experience and help the creation of this club. Considering the undeniable fact that a lot of video games that are important to the gaming community in general (Odyssey or not) are indeed rated “M” for mature, I think an open mind is required for the possibility of the playing of these game at this club. Of course parental notes would be needed for any student to play these rated M games. I do recognize the possibility of students without parental notes and what we could possibly do with these students. They will not be denied because of this inconvenience. Although this problem is obviously solvable it is currently unresolved and i hope we could talk about it at a later date. Also depending on the size and success of this club we perhaps might allow middle school students to join. The next issue is quite important for the growth of this club which is the equipment, such as the either Playstation, X-Box or Wii. I do have willing students who would not mind donating their gaming equipment for the meeting day of the club. There is also the possibility of friendly competition either city or state wide, or even just within the grounds of Odyssey. But competitions outside of Odyssey would require field trips. Which we thought would obviously require transportation which would be parent volunteers. Also if there is an admission fee the student who would like to join would need to bring the money themselves. Also their is a small possibility of playing against other schools which is basically the same thing as a field trip. I hope you consider this possibility and I thank you for reading my letter.
